Shumashti– also known asShumasht– is anIndo-Aryan languagespoken in eastern Afghanistan. It is spoken in parts ofKunar Province:on the western side of theKunar ValleybetweenJalalabadand thePech Valley.The number of speakers was estimated at 1,000 in 1994.[2]

It has been influenced by theNortheast Pashailanguages, and it is related to theGrangali language,with which it shares about a third of its basic vocabulary, and toGawar-Bati,with which it has about half of its basic lexis in common.[2]
