Western Family Foodswas founded as thePacific Mercantile Cooperativeon March 3, 1934, by a group of retailer-owned grocery wholesalers. Western Family Foods was established December 19, 1963. The company supplied independentgrocery storeswith storebrands.It is based inTigard, Oregon.It used to distribute theWestern Family,Shurfine,Shursaving,MarketChoice,andBetter Buybrands,which were used in many independently ownedsupermarkets.On June 13, 2016, Western Family Foods announced that they had been acquired byTopcoand closed their Tigard office later in 2016.[1]
