Slieve Gullionis one of the seven district electoral areas (DEA) inNewry, Mourne and Down,Northern Ireland.[1]The district elects seven members toNewry, Mourne and Down District Counciland contains the wards of Bessbrook, Camlough, Crossmaglen, Forkhill, Mullaghbane, Newtownhamilton and Whitecross.[2]Slieve Gullion forms part of the Newry and Armagh constituencies for theNorthern Ireland AssemblyandUK Parliament.
It was created for the1985 local elections,replacingNewry and Mourne Areas DandEwhich had existed since 1973, where it originally contained five wards (Creggan, Crossmaglen, Fathom, Forkhill and Silver Bridge). For the2014 local electionsit gained two additional wards, gaining most of the abolishedThe Fews DEAincluding Bessbrook, Camlough and Newtownhamilton.
