Electrowerkzis a three-floor music venue inIslington,London.In addition to mainstream club nights, it hosts the regulargothnight club Slimelight and many other club, live music and events.
Layout
[edit]Electrowerkz has three floors. Much of the layout of the ground floor was shaped to accommodateCarsten Höller'spop-up restaurantwhich used the venue in November 2008–July 2009.[1]
Since 2022 the business has been under new ownership and there has been huge investment significantly improving all areas of the venue which has led to Electrowerkz featuring in many top london club features. Also the new investment and upgrades has meant an increase in capacity to 1560 this is one of the bigeest venues in central London.
Slimelight
[edit]Slimelight, also known as "Slimes", is a dark scene night club which covers such genres asgoth,industrial,dark techno,dark electro,anddark wave,which has existed at The Electrowerkz since 1987.[2]
As well as DJs, Slimelight also regularly has live acts before the club or during it. Artists who have performed at Slimelight includeVNV Nation,The Crüxshadows,Combichrist,Clan of XymoxandNitzer Ebb.
To comply with the law when Slimelight began in the 1980s, the club has a membership scheme that requires getting existing members to approve new members. Although this is no longer necessary, the membership scheme still exists and provides members with a cheaper entrance fee.[2]Most of the ground floor exists in its current state due to a pop up restaurant fromCarsten Höllerwhich co-existed with the club for several months.[3]
While UK entertainment venues were restricted from holding in-person events during theCOVID-19 pandemic,the club moved online with multiple livestream DJ events onTwitch.
Since 2022 Slimelight is run by the new owners and Ricardo Castro a major name in London's dark club scene.

Under the name The Werkz, Electrowerkz makes itself available as a venue for weddings, product launches and as a film location.[4]
Electrowerkz was a filming location for theBlack MirrorepisodeSan Junipero.[5][6]

Mayuan Mak
[edit]Mayuan Mak was the owner of Electrowerkz until his death in December 2020.[7]He was also the co-founder of Slimelight.
