Snowshill(locally/ˈsnoʊzəl/SNOH-zəl,[1]/ˈsnɒzəl/SNOZ-əl)[2]is a smallCotswoldsvillage andcivil parishinGloucestershire,England, located nearBroadway,Worcestershire.The population taken at the2011 censuswas 164.[3]
Prehistoric history
[edit]An important earlyBronze Agehoard was found outside Snowshill in the late nineteenth century. Excavated from abarrowin 1881, it includes apicritebattle-axe and bronze pin, dagger and spear-head. Dated to between 2100 and 1600 BC, it is now in theBritish Museum's collection.[4]
Snowshill Manor
[edit]Snowshill is best known for nearbySnowshill Manor,aNational Trustproperty open to the public. The manor house contains an unusual collection of furniture, musical instruments, craft tools, toys, clocks, bicycles and armour, all collected by architect and craftsmanCharles Paget Wadebetween 1900 and 1951. HisArts and Crafts-stylegardens are arranged in an eccentric combination of terraces and ponds forming outdoor rooms, with bright colours and delightful scents.[5]
Snowshill Lavender
[edit]Snowshill is also the home to Snowshill Lavender, a farm with 35acres(142,000 m2) oflavenderfields, which also sells lavender products, plants and local crafts.
