Soi Cheang(born 11 July 1972), also known asBob Chengor by his birth nameCheang Pou-soi,[a]is a Macau-born Hong Kong filmmaker.[1][2]Known for his contribution to action crime films, his worksMotorway(2012),Limbo(2021) andMad Fate(2023) earned him threeBest Directornominations at theHong Kong Film Awards,which he won for the latter.
Cheang's films have regularly appeared at international film festivals; for examples,Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In(2024) was selected to be in the Official Selection (Midnight Screening) of theCannes Film Festival,[3]Mad Fate(2023) andLimbo(2021) were selected to be in the Berlinale Special section ofBerlin International Film Festival,[4][5]andAccident(2009) was selected to be in Competition section ofVenice Film Festival.[6]
In addition to directing action crime films, Cheang was also directedThe Monkey Kingtrilogy, in which he producedthe latter.His other works, includedParadox(2017) andI'm Livin' It(2019), earned him twoBest Filmnominations at the Hong Kong Film Awards, as well asThe Sunny Side of the Street(2022), earned him theGolden Horse Award for Best Narrative Featurenomination, respectively.
