Southern Iranconsists of the southern mountain ranges ofZagrosandCentral Iranian Range,Khuzestan Plainand the northern coasts ofPersian GulfandStrait of Hormuz.

Definition and geography[edit]

It includes the provinces ofFars,Kohgiluyeh and Buyer Ahmad,HormozganandBushehr.SometimesKhuzestanandKermanare also included in this region. The major cities in the region areShiraz,Bandarabbas,Bushehr,Marvdasht,Jahrom,Yasuj,FasaandBorazjan.[1]

Demographics[edit]

Southern Iran is ethnically diverse, includingPersians,Lurs,Bakhtiaris,Qashqais,Achomians,Basseries,Baloch,Arabs,Armenians,andJews.Southern Iran is the homeland of the Persian people. Most people in southern Iran are ethnically Persian (including Persian subgroups like Lurs and Bakhtiaris).

Most people in Southern Iran are part of theIranian ethno-linguistic groupand speak anIranian language.[2]
