Steffen Ewald Hamann(born 14 June 1981) is a former German professionalbasketballplayer. He played at thepoint guardposition. Hamann was also a member of theGerman national basketball team.

Professional career

Hamann started his professional career in 1998 atBrose Baskets's development teamTSV Tröster Breitengüßbach.One year later he was a member of the first teamBrose Basketswhere he played until 2006.

From 2006 to 2007 he played on season forClimamio Bolognain ItalianSerie A.After his short stint inItalyhe returned toBambergin January where he played the rest of the 2006–07 and 2007–08 seasons. In 2008 he joinedAlba Berlinwhere he played until 2010.

In 2010 he signed withBayern Munichand became the captain of the team. He played there until 2014. In his last season he led Bayern together with star playerMalcolm Delaneyto its first championship since 1955 and to theEuroLeagueTop 16 stage. For those achievements the club retired his No. 6 after the season.

In his last professional season he played forBaunach Young Pikesin German second divisionProA.

National team career

Hamann, the formercaptainof the seniorGerman national team,made his national team debut on 22 January 2003, in a game againstMacedonia.He played at the2003,2007,2009,and2011EuroBaskets;and at the2006and2010FIBA World Cups.

In2008,he led the German team, together with 13-timeNBA All-StarDirk Nowitzki,to their firstSummer Olympic Gamessince the1992 Summer Olympics.In all competitions, he averaged 5.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2 assists per game.
