Sternpost

Asternpostis the upright structural member or post at thesternof a (generally wooden)shipor aboat,to which are attached thetransomsand the rearmost left corner part of thestern.

The sternpost may either be completely vertical or may be tilted or "raked" slightlyaft.It rests on or "fays to" the ship'skeel.
