Steven C. Englebright(born August 24, 1946[1]) was the Assembly member for the 4th District of theNew York Assemblyfrom 1992 until his defeat in 2022. He is aDemocrat.

Englebright was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 1992. He was the chair of the Assembly Committee on Environmental Conservation.[2]

Englebright graduated fromBayside High SchoolinQueens, New York.[3]He received aB.S.degree from theUniversity of Tennesseein 1969 and anM.S.inPaleontology/SedimentologyfromStony Brook Universityin 1974.[4]

He worked as Curator of Geologic Collections at Stony Brook University and was the founding director of the Museum of Long Island Natural Sciences. Englebright served as aSuffolk Countylegislator from 1983 until his election to the New York State Assembly in 1992.[1][5]

Englebright was defeated in the2022 electionbyEdward Flood.[6]

In 2023, Englebright was re-elected to theSuffolk CountyLegislature in the 5th Legislative District, a seat he previously occupied prior to his tenure in the Assembly.[7]
