Bamboo shoot salad
Bamboo shoot salad(Thai:ซุบหน่อไม้,RTGS:sup nomai,pronounced[súpnɔ̀ː.máːj];Lao:ຊຸບໜໍ່ໄມ້,pronounced[sūpnɔ̄ː.mâj]) is a traditionalLao/ Northeastern Thai (Isan) dish.
It is a popular dish, often sold alongsidesomtamin Thailand, and features sour, salty and hot tastes from lime,fish sauce,dried chilli and toasted rice.[1][2]In addition tobamboo shoots,typical ingredients also include local herbs such asyanang(Tiliacora triandra), lemongrass andphak phaeo(Polygonum odoratum). It is traditionally eaten with warmsticky riceand grilled chicken (kai yang).[3]
In Thailand, considerable confusion exists regarding the name of the dish, assup,a Lao word describing this kind of spicy salad dish, is a homophone of the loanword forsoup.The name of the dish is often misspelled asซุปหน่อไม้,which would mean "bamboo-shoot soup".[2]
