Surak(Persian:سورك[a]is a city in, and the capital of, theCentral DistrictofMiandorud County,Mazandaranprovince,Iran,and also serves as capital of the county.[4]
At the 2006 census, its population was 8,817 in 2,377 households, when it was in the former Miandorud District ofSari County.[5]The following census in 2011 counted 8,930 people in 2,712 households,[6]by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Miandorud County.[4]The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 9,208 people in 4,087 households.[2]
Surak is 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) fromSari,stretching from Sari in the west toNekain the east, north to theCaspian Seaand south to the northern slopes of theAlborz Mountains.
