Rebellionis aprofessional wrestlingpay-per-vieweventproduced byTotal Nonstop Action Wrestling,which is annually held during the month of April. The event was first held in 2019, and it has since become one of the promotion's "Big Four" events (along withHard to Kill,Slammiversary,andBound for Glory).[1]

The inaugural Rebellion event took place on April 28, 2019 atThe Rebel ComplexinToronto,Ontario,Canadaand did 2,200 buys.[2]Eightprofessional wrestling matcheswere contested at the event.[3]Themain eventwas aFull Metal Mayhem matchfor theImpact World Tag Team Championship,in whichThe Lucha Brothers(Pentagón Jr.andFénix) defended the titles againstThe Latin American Xchange(Santana and Ortiz). LAX won the highly acclaimed match and the tag team titles, marking Lucha Brothers' last match in Impact.[4]

The undercard also notably sawBrian CagedefeatJohnny Impactto capture his firstImpact World Championship,Michael Elgin's Impact debut by attacking Cage after the match[5][6]andTessa BlancharddefeatingGail Kimin what would be Kim's retirement match, which was considered Kim's "passing of the torch" to Blanchard and also marked the beginning of Blanchard's rise as the company's most popular wrestler and her gradual rise tomain eventstatus.[7]

On January 13, 2020, Impact Wrestling announced on itsTwitteraccount that it would be holding a second Rebellion event in April atTerminal 5inNew York, New York.[8]It was later announced that the event would take place on April 19.[9]Due to theCOVID-19 pandemic,however, the event was rescheduled and taped on a closed set at Skyway Studios inNashville, Tennesseebetween April 8 and 10.[10][11]It aired ontape delayas a two-part special episode ofImpact!on April 21 and 28.[12]

Impact World ChampionTessa Blanchardwas unable to attend the tapings, thus canceling the event's planned world championship match in which she was to defend the title againstMichael ElginandEddie Edwards.[13]In the main event of the April 21 broadcast,Ken ShamrockdefeatedSami Callihanby technical submission in anunsanctioned match,[14]while in the main event of the April 28 broadcast,MoosedefeatedHernandezand Michael Elgin in athree-way match.After the match, Moose declared himself theTNA World Heavyweight Champion.[15]
