Breach of a social norm

Participants section - victimless crime

[edit]

I think the participants section makes it seem like a crime is not possible without both a perpetrator and a victim. The article onvictimless crimeexists as a contradiction.

Adding this as an edit request since I'm short on time.CoolAndUniqueUsername(talk)16:24, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not all public wrongs are forbidden by law

[edit]

The intro paragraph includes this text:

One proposed definition is that a crime oroffence(orcriminal offence) is an act harmful not only to some individual but also to a community, society, or the state ( "a publicwrong"). Such acts are forbidden and punishable by law

I think it should instead read, 'some such acts' or 'many such acts'. There are some acts which meet that definition of 'public wrong' that are not punishable by law. These include: forms of bullying (harms individual; creates fear in others) or hostile bad-faith arguing (can be stressful; harmful to epistemic norms)
