Golden Age of Hip Hop

[edit]

Under the Golden Age heading, it mentions that period being from the mid 80's to early 90's, specifically ending around 1994. However, this discludes many artists and albums that are typically apart of that 'Golden Era', including Tupac's album "All Eyez on Me", Nas' album "It Was Written", Busta Rhymes' debut album "The Coming", and Jay-Z's debut album "Reasonable Doubt", all released in 1996. These are artists and albums that are commonly considered apart of that "Golden Age" or "Golden Era" of Rap and Hip-Hop. That is why I think the period of "Golden Age" of Rap/Hip-Hop should go up to the year 1996 on this page. Sites that also say the "Golden Era/Age" goes up to 1996: [1] [2] [3]LoreDyl(talk)12:07, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change banner from Eminem

[edit]

Eminem is not representative of the genre, especially as a white artist in a traditionally black genre. I don't have a specific suggestion as to who to replace it with, but there are a lot of choices that would be better than eminem. I'd do this myself if it wasn't protected.Cateydotnet(talk)09:38, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Some examples could be critically aclaimed rappers like Kendrick Lamar. Jay Z, Nas, or the originators of the genre like Grandmaster Flash. Kool Herc or Rakim and Tribe Called Quest from a bit later. The first examples are still popular and fit and represent rap more than they do Pop music. That picture might have been a good cover in the 2000s at Eminem's peak, but its now outdated and doesnt represent neither the start or the present day of hiphop, and arguably hip hop at all.Giannistaz(talk)11:27, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
