Tamouis a village and "Ruralcommune"inNiger.[1]The town is capital of its Rural Commune in theSay DepartmentofTillabéri Region,in the far southwest of the nation.[2]It is southwest ofNiamey,on the right (western) bank of the Niger River, between the departmental capitalSayand the border ofBurkina Faso.[3] [4]Tamou Commune is home to theTamou Total Reserve,a wildlife reserve which is part of the largerW National Parkand Transborder Reserve. The Tamou Reserve, in which local people also live, is primarily dedicated to the protection ofAfrican Elephantpopulations which migrate through the region.[5][6]

As of 2012, it had a population of 89,782.[7]
