Tara Palmeri(born September 1, 1987) is an American journalist. She is currently the Senior Political Correspondent for subscription news platformPuck.[3]Previously, she served as Chief National Correspondent atPolitico[4]and host and chief investigative reporter of twoSony Musicpodcasts: "Broken: Seeking Justice" and "Power: The Maxwells". She previously worked forWashington Examinerand theNew York Postand was a White House correspondent forABC News.[5][6]

Palmeri was born on September 1, 1987, inNew York.[citation needed]She attendedAmerican Universityand graduated with abachelor's degreein Public Communication in 2008.[7][8]

Career

Palmeri started her career atCNNas a news assistant in the D.C. bureau in 2009. She subsequently joined theWashington Examinerwhere she co-wrote a daily column called "Yeas & Nays".[8][9][10]

She moved to New York in 2010 when she was hired by theNew York Postto write for the paper'sPage Sixgossip column.[11]She also worked as ageneral assignmentreporter and covered stories including theJohn Edwardstrial, theNewtown, Connecticut school shooting,the 2012DemocraticandRepublican National conventionsand theJovan Belchermurder-suicide.Palmeri then began covering politics as aNew York City Hallreporter.

Politicohired her to cover European politics fromBrusselsin 2015.[12]After the 2016 presidential election,Politicohad her come back toWashingtonas a White House reporter covering theTrumpadministration.[13]During her tenure, she broke exclusive stories, including one onWhite Housestaffers who failedFBIbackground checks, which ledWhite House Press SecretarySean Spicerto call Palmeri "an idiot with no real sources."[14]

CNNannounced in 2017 that Palmeri was hired as apolitical analystfor the network, while continuing to cover President Trump forPolitico.[15]Palmeri was hired byABC Newsas a full-time White House correspondent in October 2017.[16]From ABC News president James Goldston's memo on her hiring: "Tara is a tenacious reporter with a keen instinct for political scoops, and a thoughtful analyst of both politics and policy... Tara joins us at a time when news from Washington continues to dominate thenews cycleand impact every aspect of our audience’s lives. "[6]

Palmeri left ABC News and re-joinedPoliticoto work as a co-author of its newsletterPlaybookin 2021.[7]In 2022, Palmeri joined the journalism startupPuck.[3]At Puck, Palmeri broke the news thatNancy Pelosiwould resign asSpeaker of the Houseafter the 2022 midterm elections.[17]

TJ Ducklo incident

While at Politico, Palmeri's reporting led to a White House official resigning early in theBidenadministration. According toVanity Fair,White HouseDeputy Press SecretaryTJ Ducklohad threatened Palmeri, telling her he would "destroy her" if she published a story about his relationship withAlexi McCammond,anNBC,MSNBCandAxiosreporter. Ducklo during a phone call also reportedly made "derogatory and misogynistic comments" towards Palmeri and accused her of being "jealous" of his relationship with McCammond.[18]On February 12, Ducklo was suspended without pay by the White House for one week.[19]The following day, Ducklo resigned from his White House position over the matter.[20]
