The Brave Archer 2,also known asKungfu Warlord 2,is a 1978 Hong Kong film adapted fromLouis Cha's novelThe Legend of the Condor Heroes.The film was produced by theShaw Brothers Studioand directed byChang Cheh,starringAlexander Fu Shengand Niu-niu in the lead roles. The film is the second part of a trilogy and was preceded byThe Brave Archer(1977) and followed byThe Brave Archer 3(1981). The trilogy has two unofficial sequels,The Brave Archer and His Mate(1982) andLittle Dragon Maiden(1983).
Plot[edit]
Huang Rongis taken hostage byOuyang Feng,who attempts to use her to seize theNine Yin ManualfromGuo Jing.Guo andHong Qigongrescue Huang Rong and Guo gives Ouyang an "edited" version of the manual, that will eventually cause Ouyang to become insane after he practises the skills in the manual wrongly. Ouyang, Hong and Guo get into a fight, in which Ouyang Ke is injured, and Guo and Hong use the opportunity to escape. However, Hong Qigong is also wounded and he gives Huang Rong his Dog Beating Staff, effectively handing over his leadership of theBeggars' Sectto her. Ouyang Feng and Ouyang Ke pursue Guo Jing and Huang Rong to a deserted town for revenge. Guo and Huang take shelter in an abandoned tavern inhabited by only a retarded girl called Shagu.
Guo Jing and Huang Rong meetZhou Botongagain to find treasure. Guo is wounded and Zhou Botong fights with Ouyang Feng, while Guo retreats with Huang Rong so that he can get time to heal. They find a secret chamber in the abandoned tavern and hide there while Guo recuperates. At this point, the story splits into several sub-plots, all taking place in the tavern.Yang Kangkills Ouyang Ke when Ouyang is about to molestMu Nianci,and takes the Dog Beating Staff, which Huang Rong had carelessly dropped; Lu Guanying comes in search of Guo Jing; Mei Chaofeng appears and fights with the "Seven Immortals ofQuanzhen".Huang Yaoshicomes here in search of his daughter and Guo and Huang Rong come out of their hiding place to meet him. Huang Yaoshi takes Shagu back toPeach Blossom Islandafter realizing that she is the daughter of one of his former disciples.
Guo Jing and Huang Rong are kidnapped by members of theBeggars' Sectlater, who do not recognize them. Just then, the Qiu Qianren leads his Iron Palm Sect to confront the Beggars' Sect. Yang Kang lies that he is the new chief of the Beggars' Sect as he has the Dog Beating Staff, a symbol of the sect's leadership. However, Guo Jing and Huang Rong break free and challenge Yang Kang. Yang's false identity is revealed and he escapes to join Qiu Qianren, while Huang Rong is officially recognized as the new chief of the Beggars' Sect.
