The Mournes DEA (1993-2014) within Newry and Mourne

The Mournesis one of the seven district electoral areas (DEA) inNewry, Mourne and Down,Northern Ireland.[1]The district elects seven members toNewry, Mourne and Down District Counciland contains the wards of Annalong, Binnian, Donard, Kilkeel, Lisnacree, Murlough and Tollymore.[2]The Mournes forms part of the South Down constituencies for theNorthern Ireland AssemblyandUK Parliament.

It was created for the1985 local elections,replacingNewry and Mourne Area Awhich had existed since 1973, where it originally contained five wards (Annalong, Binnian, Kilkeel Central, Kilkeel South and Lisnacree). For the2014 local electionsit gained two additional wards, gaining Donard, Murlough and Tollymore from the abolishedNewcastle DEA,while Kilkeel was merged into a single ward.
