The restaurant is owned by Michael (Buzzy) O'Keefe and the space is leased from theNew York City Economic Development Corporation,and the rent is determined by the amount of revenue. TheNew York City Comptrollerissued a report in 2011 alleging that the Water Club was understating its revenue by failing to record some cash sales.[8]

Like its sister restaurant inFulton Ferry,The River Cafe,it was heavily damaged byHurricane Sandyin October 2012.[9][10]

The restaurant includes 396 feet (121 m) of docking space for private yachts along its waterfront promenade.[11]
