Todd Rosenthalis an Americanscenic designer.He won the 2008Tony Award for Best Scenic Designand the 2009Laurence Olivier Award for Best Set DesignforSteppenwolf Theatre Company'sAugust: Osage County.

A native ofLongmeadow, Massachusetts,[1]Rosenthal received aBachelor of Artsdegree fromColgate Universityand aMaster of Fine Artsfrom theYale School of Drama,where he received theDonald M. OenslagerScholarship for Stage Design.[2]He also studied at theArt Students League of New YorkandMoore College of Art.[3]

Rosenthal made hisBroadwaydebut withAugust: Osage County.He considered the three-level set, which he called ajuxtapositionof the "gothic and the whimsical," to be a central character in the play. Of it he said, "It's immovable, an indelible image... people move out, but the house never changes."[1]

Rosenthal'sregional theatrecredits include productions for theGoodman Theatre,Steppenwolf Theatre Company,CenterstageinBaltimore,Alley TheatreinHouston,thePhiladelphia Theatre Company,San Jose Repertory Theatre,Alliance TheatreinAtlanta,Yale Repertory Theatre,Lyric Opera of Chicago,Arena StageinWashington, D.C.,thePaper Mill PlayhouseinMillburn, New Jersey,Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival,and theBig Apple Circus.[2][3]

Rosenthal's commercial projects include micro-brewery-themed restaurants forAnheuser Busch;a pirate-themed restaurant at theTreasure Island Hotel and Casinoon theLas Vegas Strip;and a mining-themed tavern and restaurant for theCopper Mountain ResortinColorado.[3]

Rosenthal was anadjunct professorof design atDePaul Universityfrom 1995 until 2003. He has been a professor in the Department of Theatre atNorthwestern Universitysince Autumn 2003.[2][3]
