Thomas W. Enright(born 26 July 1940) is an Irish formerFine Gaelpolitician who served as aTeachta Dála(TD) for theLaois–Offalyconstituency from 1969 to 1992 and 1997 to 2002. He also served as aSenatorfor theAdministrative Panelfrom 1992 to 1997.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Enright was born inShinrone,County Offaly,in 1940. He was educated at the Cistercian College,Roscrea,University College Dublinand the IncorporatedLaw Society of Ireland.

Political career[edit]

He practised as a solicitor before becoming involved in politics in 1967 as a member ofOffaly County Councilfor theBirrlocal electoral area.Enright was first elected toDáil Éireannas a Fine Gael TD for theLaois–Offalyconstituency at the1969 general election.[2]He was subsequently appointedFine Gaelspokesperson on Tourism (1977–1979) and Consumer Affairs (1979–1981).

Enright lost his Dáil seat at the1992 general electiontoPat Gallagheras part of the swing to theLabour Partyin that election. He was then elected to the20th Seanad,where he served from 1993 to 1997. He regained his Dáil seat at the1997 general electionand retired at the2002 general election.He was succeeded by his daughterOlwyn Enright.
