Tonya Mosleyis an American radio and television journalist andpodcaster.[1][2]Prior to 2022, Mosley co-hostedNPRandWBUR'smidday talk showHere & Nowalong withRobin YoungandScott Tong.[3][4][5]In 2015, she was awarded theJohn S. Knight journalism fellowship at Stanford.[3]She hosts the podcastTruth Be Told,an advice show about race from KQED.[6]In 2023, Mosley was named co-host ofFresh Air,a talk show broadcast onNational Public Radioand produced byWHYYinPhiladelphia.[7][8]
Life and career
[edit]OfAfrican Americanheritage, Mosley was born inDetroit,Michigan.[9]Before her work in public radio and podcasting, Mosley worked as a reporter and weekend anchor at NBC33 inFort Wayne, Indiana;FOX 41inLouisville, Kentucky;KING 5in Seattle, Washington; and behind the scenes as a producer in several markets includingColumbia, Missouri;Lansing, Michigan;Flint, Michigan;andDetroit, Michigan.[10]Mosley reported forAl Jazeera AmericaandKUOW.[11]She has also been the Silicon Valley chief of San Francisco's public radio stationKQED.[3]
Mosley won anEmmy Awardin 2016 for her televised piece "Beyond Ferguson," and a nationalEdward R. Murrow awardfor her public radio series "Black inSeattle."[12]In 2010 Tonya Mosley created NewNaturalista. The popular site focused on healthy living, social justice, mental well-being, natural hair, and building wealth for women of color.[13]
