The main event featuredUFC Light Heavyweight ChampionForrest Griffin,against undefeated challengerRashad Evans.This was the first time that two winners ofThe Ultimate Fightercompeted in a title fight against each other.[4]

The first co-main event saw formerUFC Heavyweight ChampionFrank Miragainst formerPride Heavyweight ChampionandInterim UFC Heavyweight ChampionAntônio Rodrigo Nogueira.[5][6]

The other co-main event was a rubber match between formerUFC Light Heavyweight ChampionQuinton Jacksonand formerPRIDE Middleweight championWanderlei Silva.[7]Silva had won their previoustwo matchesin thePRIDEorganization inJapan.

Antoni Hardonkwas originally scheduled to face Mark Burch, who was injured and replaced byMike Wessel.[8]
