Vintryis one of the 25wardsof theCity of London.Located within it is the City end ofSouthwark Bridgeand, adjacent to that, the hall of theWorshipful Company of Vintners,theCity livery companyfor the wine trade.
The ward's boundary is formed byCannon Streetto the north, College Hill and Cousin Lane to the east, theRiver Thamesto the south, and its western edge follows an unusual line along part of Little Trinity Lane, Lambeth Hill and Distaff Lane.[1]
TheChristopher Wren-designed churchSt James Garlickhytheis within Vintry ward, nearMansion House tube station.In medieval times, French wine and garlic were landed at the nearbyGarlickhythe('garlic dock'). This circumstance led to the church being part of the route for English pilgrims travelling to the cathedral ofSantiago de Compostelain Spain, which is sacred to the memory of St James the Great.[2]
The ward containedWhittington's Longhouse,a 128-seat public toilet gifted byDick Whittington.

[edit]Vintry is one of 25 wards in theCity of London,each electing analdermanto theCourt of Aldermenand commoners (the City equivalent of acouncillor) to theCourt of Common Councilof theCity of London Corporation.
Only electors who arefreemen of the Cityare eligible to stand for election.
