Win Shein(Burmese:ဝင်းရှိန်;born 31 July 1957 in Mandalay[1]) is a former military officer and the incumbentMinister for Finance.

Career[edit]

From May 2013 to May 2014, he also served as chairman of theMyanmar Investment Commission.[2]Win Shein previously served as a Deputy Minister of Transportation from March 2011 to July 2012.[3][4]He was Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue from July to September 2012.[5]He was an Myanmar Ambassador to Cambodia[6]and was also nominated as Ambassador to France just before he was appointed as Deputy Minister. In the aftermath of the military-led2021 Myanmar coup d'état,the Myanmar Armed Forces appointed Win Shein as theMinister for Financeeffective 1 February 2021.[7]

He also served as aCommodore,as part of theMyanmar Navy's Naval Training Headquarters.[4]

Personal life[edit]

Win Shein's father, San Shein, was formerly a member of theBurma Socialist Programme Party's central executive committee.[8]
