Wird

Thewird(plural:awrād) is a regularlitanyand a mysticalinvocationpracticed bymurids,saliksandwasilsinIslamicsufism.[1]

Presentation[edit]

InSufism,themurid's transformation and salvation is done by the practice of special disciplines such as performance ofdhikr,remembrance ofAllahand his prophetMuhammad,and wird as special invocations, andQuranicrecitations, or doingSalah.[2]

The wird is then viewed as a devotion or liturgy specific to a particular Sufi order orTariqain which the substance is defined and based on dhikr and wird.[3]

Sufis designated specific times devoted to Allah and the specific dhikr recited on these occasions.[4]

An initiatemuridis given the secret wird of the Sufi order upon completion of training, transferring the spiritual power of thesilsilaof transmission from the founder of the order andMuhammad,to the initiate.[5]

Taking wird is equivalent to full initiation into the Sufitariqa.[6]

Wird is like a spiritual medication taken by themuridevery day under asheikhsupervision and named wazifa.[7]

The most effective medication for the disease ofghaflah(heedlessness) is thedhikrperformed in the form of wird.[8]

The target insufismis to awake theqalbfromghaflahand bond it to almightyAllah,thus achieving eternal peace.[9]

The primary, and easiest, way of achieving this is to occupy theqalbwith constantdhikr.[10]

Dhikr is the easiest and quickest way of bonding theqalbto almighty Allah.[11][12]

The greatest merit of the wird of dhikr is that Allah Himself remembers the servant who remembers Him exclusively and in the Divine Presence.[13][14]
