Yacht Club Costa Smeraldawas established by theAga Khanin 1967. It is situated atPorto CervoinCosta Smeralda,northernSardiniaand provides services for recreational sailors.
The club challenged for the1983 America's CupwithAzzurrainNewport, Rhode Island,coming third. In 1984, it hosted the World12-Metre Classchampionship, and in 1987 challenged for theAmerica's CupwithAzzurra '87offFremantle, Western Australia.The club was chosen by theRoyal Perth Yacht Clubas the Challenger of Record for the 1987 edition.[1]
