InMandaeism,Yufin-YufafinorYupin-Yupapin(Classical Mandaic:ࡉࡅࡐࡉࡍ ࡅࡉࡅࡐࡀࡐࡉࡍ,romanized:iupin u-iupapin) is anuthra(angel or guardian) in theWorld of Light.[1]In theGinza Rabba,Yufin-Yufafin is mentioned in Books 3 and 5.4 of theRight Ginzaand Book 1 of theLeft Ginza,whereas "Yufin-Uthra" is mentioned in Book 4 of theRight Ginza.[2]He is also mentioned in manyQolastaprayers, including prayers5,9,22,28,46,77,105,and 171, in which he is often mentioned along with uthras such asSam Mana SmiraandNbaṭ.[3]

Etymology[edit]

Nathaniel Deutsch(2000) links Yufin-Yufafin withYophiel,one of the names of the angelMetatroninJewish mysticism.Deutsch also observes many parallels between Metatron andAbatur.[4]
