Zhou Quan(Chinese:Chu toàn;pinyin:Zhōu Quán;born 16 Nov 1987) is a Chinese filmmaker. His directorial debutEnd of Summerwon KNN Award at22nd Busan International Film Festival.[1][2][3]

Early life

Zhou Quan was born and raised inShao xing,Zhe gian g Province,China. He moved to Melbourne, Australia in high school as an exchange student between Shao xing No. 1 High School andBalwyn High School.After he graduated fromRMIT Universitywith a Bachelor of Communication (Media) in 2011, he enrolled in theAmerican Film Instituteand acquired his Master of Fine Arts in Directing in 2013.

Career

Zhou Quan's AFI thesis filmWoman In Fragments(2014),[4]starring Akemi Look andElizabeth Sung,and with an original soundtrack composed byJosh Winiberg,screened at international film festivals atMontreal,Hawaii,CAAMFest,Urbanworld, etc. It won Air Canada Short Film Award atToronto Reel Asian International Film Festivaland Best Narrative Short at Austin Asian American Film Festival.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

Zhou participated in Taipei Golden Horse Film Academy led byHou Hsiao-Hsienin 2014 andBerlinale TalentsofBerlin International Film Festivalin 2015.[11][12][13]

In March 2015, Zhou presented his debut feature film projectEnd of Summer(fkaThat Summer) at 13th Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum[14][15]and won the top HAF Award.[16]The project was invited back to participate in HAF's Work-In-Progress Lab in 2017.[17][18]

End of Summer(2017),received its World Premiere at New Currents Competition of 22nd Busan International Film Festival, and went on to screen at international film festivals ofRome,Minsk,Pingyao,Hong Kong Asian Film Festival,New York Asian Film Festival,etc. The film starsZhang Songwen,Tan Zhuo,Ku Pao-ming,Dong Qing andRong Zishan;There are some notable filmmakers participated in this film, including executive producersTerence ChangandLiao Ching-Sung,producers Jacqueline W. Liu and Yuyu Yang, editor Kong Jinlei, composerLim Giong,and sound designer He Wei.[19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]

On December 3, 2017, Zhou was awarded "The New Film Director of the Year" atTencent VideoAwards.[27]

In August, 2019, Zhou signed withCAAChina.[28]

In 2020, Zhou directed a fashion short filmLe Vrai OuforVogue ChinastarringZhou XunandWang Yibo.[29]

In 2021, Zhou's narrative short film,Breathe,starring Audrey Hui,Joan Chenand Sunny Sun, executive produced by Joan Chen, opened the Pingyao Corner section of the 5thPingyao International Film Festival.[30]

In 2023, Zhou reunited with Zhang Songwen and Rong Zishan on theiQiyioriginal seriesLost in the Shadows.[31]
