Zichang(simplified Chinese:Tử trường thị;traditional Chinese:Tử trường thị;pinyin:Zǐcháng Shì) is a city inthe northofShaanxi's province, China. It is the northernmostcounty-level divisionof theprefecture-level cityofYan'an.Zichang had a population of 273,000 as of 2017, of which, 115,000 lived in urban areas.[1]

Zichang is divided into 1subdistrictand 8towns.[1][2]

Wayaobu Subdistrict

The city's sole subdistrict isWayaobu Subdistrict(Lò gạch bảo đường phố;Wǎyáobǔ Jiēdào).[2]The subdistrict is the seat of the city's administrative offices.[2]

History

Formerly called Anding County (Yên ổn huyện;Āndìng Xiàn), it was renamed in 1942 to Zichang County (Tử trường huyện;Zǐcháng Xiàn) to commemorate the Communist martyrXie Zichang[zh].[1]On July 25, 2019, the province re-organized the county as acounty-level city.[5]

Economy

In 2017, the city'sGDPwas valued at 9.719 billion yuan.[1]

Agriculture

The city's agricultural sector had an output of 1.288 billion yuan in 2017.[1]Major crops include millet, wheat, corn, beans, and potatoes.[1]The city's "mountain apples" and potatoes have been recognized for being of outstanding quality.[1]

Industry

Zichang's industry is largely dependent on natural resources such ascoalandpetroleum.[1]In 2017, the city produced 11.52 million tons of raw coal and 745,000 tons of crude oil.[1]

Transportation

The city is served by a number of road and rail links. Key roads which pass through the city include Shaanxi Provincial Road 205,[1]and theG6511 Ansai–Qing gian Expressway.[6]The city's railway station,Zichang railway station[zh],is served by theBaotou–Xi'an railway.[1]
