Ideogrammic compound (Hiểu ýHiểu ý): two hands (nowandTấc) stretched out measuring a mat (nowCông) – "a unit of measurement;arm span".The componentKhẩu( “mouth, talk” ) was likely added to emphasize the act of reading the measurement out loud. Forms with it have appeared as early asoracle bone script, but forms without it have also appeared as late as theSpring and Autumn period.
