Fromsarn-(perhaps from a dialectal pronunciation of the first syllable ofsandwich)+‎-ie.Alternatively, perhaps a misreading or an intentional dissimilation ofsamie(i.e.sammie), where the 'm' is mistaken for or replaced with 'rn'.
