ژنهایMYBعضوی ازخانوادهٔ ژنهای فاکتور رونویسیاست که در حیوانات و گیاهان یافت میشود. در انسان، این ژنها علاوه بر «MYB خالص»، شاملMYBL1وMYBL2هم هست.^[۴]^[۵]

نوعی از این ژن در آلفا-رتروویروسها دیده میشوند که در پرندگان و بهویژه مرغها سرطان خون ایجاد میکند.^[۶]^[۷]

در حیوانات نیز همچون ویروس، پروتئین حاصل از این ژن یکآنکوژن(پروتئین سرطانزا) است.^[۷]

در گیاهان این ژن در فرایند ساخت برخی مواد شیمیایی دخیل است؛ مثلاً درذرت خوشهای دورنگوجودِ این ژن و پروتئین حاصل از آن برای ساختفلاوان-۴-الضروری است.^[۸]^[۹]درمُرَکَّباتحضور این ژن در ساختآنتوسیانیننقش دارد؛ مثلاً علت قرمز بودن پرتقالهای توسُرخ، همین مادهٔ آنتوسیانین است که میزان تولیدش به سبب بیشفعالی این ژن افزایش یافته است.^[۱۰]
