Biographie
[modifier|modifier le code]Il est le fils aîné deGeorge Fife Angas(1789-1879), figure importante de la colonie britannique enAustralie-Méridionale.Il étudie lalithographieet le dessin anatomique. Il part en1843enAustralie-Méridionaleoù il accompagne le gouverneur SirGeorge Grey(1812-1898) dans ses expéditions à travers le pays et où il dessine les paysages, les aborigènes, la flore et la faune. Il revient enGrande-Bretagneen1846où il fait paraître ses dessins accompagnés par d’autres faits enNouvelle-Zélandesous le titre deSavage life and scenes in Australia and New Zealand: being an artist's impressions of countries and people at the Antipodes.Il retourne en Australie-Méridionale en1849où il devient le secrétaire de l’Australian Museumduau.Il retourne enGrande-Bretagneen1861.
Plusieursespèceslui ont été dédiées, principalement desmollusqueset d’autresinvertébrés.Il est aussi l'auteur de:
