Laclassification phylogénétique APG II (2003)^[1]et laclassification phylogénétique APG III (2009)^[2]placent aujourd'hui cette famille dans l'ordre desCommelinales.

Étymologie

Le nom vient du genrePhilydrumdérivé du grecφίλος/philos,ami, etυδώρ/hydor,eau^[3].
