In the early 1920s he worked as a longshoreman on the docks of San Pedro, California. Became a singer on Spanish advertising radio, the host of his early morning radio show. Spoke out against discriminiation in the early 1930s, and was falsely accused then convicted of raping a minor in 1934. Spent six years in San Quentin though his accuser admitted eight months after the trial that she had falsely accused him. In 1940 he was paroled and deported to Mexico, where he settled in Tijuana, where he resumed his musical career and a radio producer. Returned to the United States in 1971 and settled in San Ysidro.)
