Sejarah

Universitas ini didirikan pada8 September 1636dan merupakanperguruan tinggitertua diAmerika Serikat.Awalnya bernamaNew College,dan dinamakan ulang menjadi Harvard College pada13 Maret 1639untuk menghormati penyumbang terbesarnya,John Harvard,seorang mantan mahasiswaUniversitas Cambridge.

Rujukan terawal yang memanggil Harvard sebagai "universitas" dan bukan "college" terjadi pada tahun1780.
