Polis(/ˈpɒlɪs/;bahasa Yunani:πόλιςpengucapan[pólis]), jamakpoleis(/ˈpɒleɪz/,πόλεις[póleːs]) secara harfiah artinya adalahkotadalam bahasa Yunani. Istilah tersebut juga dapat memiliki arti badan masyarakat. Dalam historiografi modern,polisbiasanya dipakai untuk menyebut negara-kota Yunani kuno, sepertiAthena Klasikdan kota-kota sezamannya, dan sering kali diterjemahkan menjadi "kota-negara".
