Tuni̱siya(La̱ra̱ba:تونسTūnis,á̱ ngyei[tuː.nɪs];Buzu:Tunest;Fi̱ransa:Tunisie) a̱lyoot a̱gwomna̱ti kikya yetRi̱pobi̱lik Tuni̱siya,[lower- Alpha 1][1]is the northernmostcountryinAfrica.It is a part of theMaghrebregion ofNorth Africa,bordered byAlgeriato the west and southwest,Libyato the southeast, and theMediterranean Seato the north and east. It features the archaeological sites ofCarthagedating back to the 9th century BC, as well as the Great Mosque ofKairouan.Known for its ancient architecture,souksand blue coasts, it covers 163,610 km2(63,170 sq mi), and has a population of 12.1 million. It contains the eastern end of theAtlas Mountainsand the northern reaches of theSaharadesert; much of its remaining territory isarable land.Its 1,300 km (810 mi) of coastline include the African conjunction of the western and eastern parts of theMediterranean Basin.Tunisia is home to Africa's northernmost point,Cape Angela.Located on the northeastern coast,Tunisis the capital andlargest cityin the country. Tunisia is named after Tunis.
