Archegonium(aGraecisἀρχή'initium' +γόνος'proles') est structura velorganummulticellularetemporisgametophytorumin quibusdamplantis,quodovum(gametamfemininum) gignit et continet. Homologum organummasestantheridium.Archegonio sunt longus venter (canalis cervicalis) et basis tumida. Archegonia plerumque insuperficiethallifiunt, sed inanthocerotophytisintratextuminveniuntur.

Inbryophytisaliisquecryptogamis,semenad archegoniumnatationeinliquidopervenit, quandoquidem inpinophytisetangiospermispollenventovelvectoribusanimalibus,et semina pertubum pollinistraduntur. Exempli gratia, inPhyscomitrella patente,archegonia non intra textum, sed supergametophoramfoliaceampatent.[2]
