Roderick Murchisonഎന്നഭൂഗർഭശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻറഷ്യയിലെPermഎന്ന നഗരത്തെ ആസ്പദമാക്കിയാണ് ഈ പേര് നൽകിയത്.
ഇക്കാലവും തുടർന്നുവന്നട്രയാസ്സിക്കാലവും ഭൂമിയിൽവലിയ വംശനാശത്തിന്സാക്ഷ്യം വഹിച്ചു.[7][8]അതിനെ അതിജീവിക്കാൻ പിന്നീട് 30 ദശലക്ഷം വർഷങ്ങൾ എടുത്തു.[9]
