FKA twigs and Shia LaBeouf Trial Date Pushed Back to 2024

At one point scheduled for November 2023, both sides agreed to postpone the trial until the end of next year

FKA twigslawsuitagainst Shia LaBeouf—which was filed at the end of 2020 and cites “relentless abuse,” sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress—will not go to trialas plannedin 2023. On August 29, both parties agreed to a continuance, postponing the trial to Monday, October 14, 2024, court filings viewed by Pitchfork confirm. Pitchfork has reached out to FKA twigs and LaBeouf’s respective attorneys for comment.

The filing notes that “certain discovery issues still remain to be resolved” and says that depositions for both sides have been repeatedly postponed due to scheduling issues surrounding FKA twigs and LaBeouf’s respective “entertainment projects.” It’s also noted that FKA twigs’ key counsel will be on maternity leave during the previously scheduled November 6, 2023, trial date. The new trial date, of course, could be adjusted again “to a date as soon thereafter is convenient thereafter on the court’s calendar.”

“What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life,” FKA twigs toldThe New York Timesin late 2020. “I don’t think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that’s the thing. It can happen to anybody.” She discussed the lawsuit further ina February 2021 broadcast interviewwith Gayle King.

“I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel,” LaBeouf responded in an email for the aforementioned 2020Timesarticle. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”
