The peace he has here flies away only a few hours later, when he starts his working day at the shoemaker's shop. Loads of work won't give him much time to have a break, but when he does, his mother turns up with some home cooked lunch for them both and starts talking about only herself. One day, Marvin collects a big parcel that he had ordered - a lifelike silicone doll. When he starts to open it at home, his sense of shame prevails and he closes the parcel again. But after a while he tries again, though the doll, now sitting on his couch, does not make him feel attracted or near to her. It takes time until a certain closeness and intimacy has developed between them. The doll takes up more and more space in Marvin's life, which leads him to temporarily lose track of his everyday life. His mother, who always tries to take care of him, notices this. Marvin keeps the doll secret from his mother, he is too afraid that his mother won't understand him. But both, the doll and his mother, take up so much space in his life, that an encounter becomes unavoidable.
