History

The district was created in 1973 by merging the previous districts of Freiburg, Müllheim und Hochschwarzwald.

Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald is a lairge an rural destrict wi at least three destinct landscapes:

1. the river plain o theUpper Rhine(Oberrheinebene) wi theKaiserstuhlmuntain, theTuniberg,theBreisgauan theMarkgräflerland
