Aarhusis the second biggest city inDenmarkafterCopenhagen,and the biggest onJutland,the Danish mainland. It has about 290,000inhabitants,and themetropolitan area,that Aarhus is a part of has close to 1,400,000.

The settlement of Aarhus was started in around the year 770 as a trading place of theVikings,but the oldest recorded history of Aarhus is from 951. The city grew in the 16th century and again during theIndustrial Revolution.

Aarhus'climateis on the boundary betweenhumid continental(Dfbin theKoeppen climate classification) andoceanic(Cfbin the Koeppen climate classification).
