Ara Güler
Ara Güler(Armenian:Արա Կիւլեր,August 16, 1928 – October 17, 2018) was an Armenian-Turkishphotojournalist.He was nicknamed "the Eye of Istanbul" or "the Photographer of Istanbul".[1][2]He was "one of Turkey's few internationally known photographers".[3]He was born inIstanbul.
Güler traveled on assignment toIran,Kazakhstan,Afghanistan,Pakistan,India,Kenya,New Guinea,Borneo,as well as all parts of Turkey.[4]In the 1970s he photographed politicians and artists such asWinston Churchill,Indira Gandhi,Maria Callas,John Berger,Bertrand Russell,Willy Brandt,Alfred Hitchcock,Ansel Adams,Imogen Cunningham,Marc Chagall,Salvador DalíandPablo Picasso.
Güler's archive contains some 800,000photographic slides.[5]
Güler died in Istanbul on October 17, 2018 from aheart attack,aged 90.[6]
