Arno Allan Penzias

Arno Allan Penzias(/ˈpɛnziəs/;April 26, 1933 – January 22, 2024) was aGerman-bornAmericanphysicistandradio astronomer.Along withRobert Woodrow Wilson,he discovered thecosmic microwave background radiation,which helped create theBig Bangtheory of cosmology. He and Wilson won the 1978Nobel Prize in Physics.

Penzias was born inMunich,Germanyand raised inNew York City.[1][2]He studied atColumbia University.

Penzias died from problems caused byAlzheimer's diseaseinSan Francisco,Californiaon January 22, 2024, at the age of 90.[3]
