Bautzen(Upper Sorbian:Wokrjes Budyšin) is a district in theFree State of SaxonyinGermany.
The district was created in1994by joining the former districts of Bautzen and Bischofswerda. The independent city ofHoyerswerdaand the former district Kamenz became part of the district in 2008
Coat of arms
[change|change source]The district's arms are the same as the coat of arms of the margravate of Upper Lusatia. The coat of arms was granted about1350,when six towns of Upper Lusatia founded a confederacy. This loose alliance was made a margravate by the kings of Bohemia in1378. |
