Franz Anton Beckenbauer(German pronunciation:[ˈfʁants ˈbɛkŋ̍ˌbaʊɐ],audio(help·info);11 September 1945 – 7 January 2024) was a German professionalfootballerand manager. Franz was often calledDer Kaiser( "The Emperor" ). He was regarded to be one of the greatest players in the history of football.[1][2]Franz was often credited for inventing the role of themodern sweeper(libero).[3]
